Dear Recipients:
For your current, and as background information, when I assumed
presidency of the Division, starting January, 2003, I communicated
at the time, with the Board of Directors and others within the Division,
that in order for our Division to become stronger and successful,
we needed to prioritize issues relevant to the work of UN, from local
to national.
Along that thought, and as a follow up action, we began,
to buildup our Division's Standing Committees and Advocacy Chairs
around important issues to Chapters and to the Division.
I am happy to say that our Division today, has ten functioning
Committees under the direction of capable Chairs. (Please see http://www.una-socal.org/ for
the list), and many chapters have identified their priority issues
as well.
To further strengthen our Division, in 2006, a Pressing Needs
Committee was formed to further prioritize Chapters & Division's
Needs and and published a recommended Action Plan. Thanks to the
work of the Committee, and our CCD members, in April 2006, a retreat
was held in Claremont, CA, which resulted in listing, specifically
of the following Goals as priorities:
1) Building Membership
2) Develop Financial Resources
3) Expanding Communications
4) Undertaking Programs
Thanks to the initiative and help of staff at NY office, Rene Wilson,
Jim Stanbery, and Mel Boynton, and Pressing Needs Committee members, details
of the retreat exercise was tabulated in a grid that is shown by the attached
document 1, pdf file, called:
Document 1:
"So.Cal
UNA-USA 2007-2008 Chapter & Division Action
Plan"
This report was presented to me at our 2006 Annual meeting as I valued
and appreciated the time, money and efforts had gone in to preparing it by all
concerned and involved. However, after my further review of the plan, I asked
that we re-prioritize these pressing needs in the following order:
1) Expanding Communications
2) Undertaking Programs
3) Building Membership
4) Develop Financial Resources
This change was adopted unanimously by the Board, and therefore, it became
the adopted Division Priorities in addition to what we had already undertaken
to be building of the standing committees and Advocacy Chairs for the Division.
Upon, further promotion of Committees & Advocacy Chairs building,
and request by the Board & the Executive Committee, for implementation of
these recommendations, I further returned to my initial recommendations for the
necessity of issue priority and follow up action plan, and produced a new document,
which is the
Document 2, Titled:
"Southern California Division (Region 9), Strategic Action Plan".
This document outlines six distinctive steps to the implementation of
what was voted on by the Board at January, 27, 2007, in Upland, CA. These steps
are:
1- Education On Issues
2- Prioritize And Adopt Advocacy Issues
3) Expanding Communications On Issues
4) Undertaking Programs
5) Building Membership
6) Developing Financial Resources
Please take time and read these two documents carefully as they are the
guiding outlines to how we can make our UNA presence stronger here in Southern
California through Chapters and Division Issue Priority & Follow-up Actions.
I would like to ask that the next Step is taken by you as Division Board
Member, Advocay Chair and Leaders, by reviewing these documents and make further
recommendations so we have a more comprehensive
Division Strategic Action Plan for achieving our UNA-USA goals
and objectives in 2007/2008.
Thank you for taking time to read this email and the attached files attentively
and responsively.
Sincerely,
Ardishir Rashidi-Kalhur
