Reminder to sign up for the Annual Convention, June 5 - 8, 2010 in Washington DC

Dear Chapter Leaders,

The Annual CCD Conference to be held in Washington, DC, Sat. June 5 through Tuesday June 8 comes at a very significant time in the history of UNA, and for its future.  This will be a chance for members to learn about the latest developments at UNA-USA, and to contribute thoughts about how best to carry out our mission going forward.  It would be wonderful to have all chapters represented for at least part of this conference.

After a continental breakfast, Sunday morning will include a presentation about the status of our organization by UNA President Ed Elmendorf, followed by three breakout workshops designed for smaller, medium and larger chapters, on how to increase membership.  There will be Regional Meetings during lunch.  The afternoon will include skill sessions on Effective Advocacy, Youth education, Holding Excellent Events, Communications Strategies, Chapter Management, and Chapter Fundraising.  Dinner and the evening are on your own, allowing time to see some of our beautiful National Capital City in late spring.

Again there will be continental breakfast for all on Monday, and a special meeting for Chapter Presidents.  Then the morning will feature a keynote speaker with top-level responsibilities regarding the UN, followed by breakout panel discussions on Climate Change, Human Rights, Global Economic Governance/MDGs, Nuclear Rollback, and the UN and Disasters.  Lunch is on our own.  Monday afternoon will include a Warm-up for the Day on the Hill, and the Annual CCD Meeting.  At 5 p.m. the Awards Reception will honor the winners of this year's Arnold Goodman Award, Earl Eames Communication Award, and YPIC's Global Young Advocate Award.

On Tuesday, Day on the Hill, we will first meet over breakfast at the Church of the Reformation for a briefing on UN issues.  Then we talk with our Congressional members of the House in the morning, observe the open National Board Meeting over lunch, and call on our Senators in the afternoon.  We should be done about 4 p.m.  A draft schedule is on the Registration website.

The deadline for the "Early Bird" Registration has been extended until May 21st. After that, prices will increase by 20%.  To register, paste the following into your web browser:

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Palomar Hotel, near the Carnegie Institute where the meeting will be held.  The hotel registration phone number is 1-877-866-3070.  Be sure you mention that you are with the UNA group, to get the reduced rate of $179 per night per room.  To save on costs, you may wish to make plans to share a room. There is also the possibility of a few accommodations for YPIC members in homes of UNA members in the National Capital Area Division.  Please contact Karen Mulhauser if interested in such a home stay.

I hope to see you in Washington!
