UNITED NATIONS ASSOCIATION OF SAN DIEGO PRESIDENT APPOINTED TO CITY OF SAN DIEGO INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS BOARD

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, JUNE 2, 2009 – The United Nations Association of San Diego (UNASD) announces that the organization’s President, Dr. Mary McKenzie, has been appointed by Mayor Jerry Sanders to the International Affairs Board. In addition to her expertise in international affairs, Dr. Mary McKenzie was selected because she represents UNASD, an organization that works with numerous other international organizations that seek to bring local communities together with the goal of fostering peace.

Dr. Mary McKenzie’s appointment reflects UNASD’s 60 plus years of contributing, leading, and participating in numerous projects and campaigns that promote better understanding between peoples and communities. To name a few, the organization has worked to ensure and promote human rights, protect the environment, improve communications between cultural, ethnic and religious communities, combat HIV/AIDS, and protect children around the world through organizing, sponsoring or participating in numerous activities and educational conferences locally and globally.

“It is vital that we continue working together in the local international community, and not just tolerate each other’s differences, but truly understand and respect each other. An appointment like this helps our organization and the community take our knowledge and contribute to the next level of developments in San Diego. We are confident Dr. Mary McKenzie will bring our UNA experience to the International Affairs Board, delivering positive results,” says Katharine Kubichan, former President of UNASD.
